What’s the best “bad” movie you’ve ever seen?

It’s been a few years now, but I remember watching the SyFy channel because their originals were getting better. For me, it started with Mega Shark vs Giant Octopus. They really found a formula and stuck with it. Sharknado was their Snakes on a Plane moment and they’ve been looking for that magic ever since.

I remember seeing they had an original that was airing (this is post-Sharknado) and was excited to tune in. This one was starring Steve Guttenberg. You’ll remember him from the Police Academy movies and the just as popular Short Circuit movie. He didn’t return for the sequel.

It has subsequently been revealed that he was the first choice for Sharknado, but he passed and it ultimately went to Ian Ziering, who famously didn’t want to do it but was overruled by his then pregnant wife. She cited that they needed the insurance and his career was revived thanks to that decision. Guttenberg regretted this decision and said he would do the next one offered to him.

That movie was called Lavalantula. Now, if you haven’t seen this movie, do yourself a favor and find it. It follows the same formula as most bad movies, but it knows what it is and isn’t trying to fool anyone. I thought I had all the beats nailed, but it through me for a loop when who I thought was a lead character, that would make it to the end, was devoured from the inside by lava spiders!

Anyway, that’s the best “bad” movie I’ve ever seen. What’s yours?
